I had fun playing with colored pencils and markers on my new moleskine. The top image is a compilation of several layers of blind contours, which is a technique in which the artist looks only at the model, and not at the paper. I've decided I don't like using graphite on this paper, it sits too high, rather than settling nicer into the grooves of a more textured paper...

Graphite and Gouache on Stonehenge I've been exploring the metaphor of the rabbit in my intaglio prints..which I have not uploaded any examples of yet, and this was simply a way to get myself back into rendering. My prints have been very loose and abstract lately, and I felt that I needed to hone my perceptual skills again. I have to say it was a nice reprieve to return to simple drawings.

Here are some selected sketches from the Battle of Olustee Reenactment, at Olustee, Florida. It was so exhilarating to draw. Over 1,000 reenactors in full, authentic uniform, even mounted units, cannons, and incredible pyrotechnics. They came out of the trees, Union and Confederate, and had it out. About an hour long. My first attempt at book-making! Machine-sewn and strong, it is bound with a soft material, adorned with a sweet leaf pattern, and has an adorable little wooden butten clasp with a striped green ribbon. I'm so excited. This could be the beginning of a very enjoyable new project :)

A new concept-- photograms. An image created directly onto photosensitive paper by blocking the light from the enlarger with objects. Light will penetrate translucent objects, and be completely blocked by solid ones. Fun for experiments! Enjoy :)

Ah! It finally happened. Floral motifs worked their way into a piece. I decided I needed to paint something charming, friendlier to the eye. I think I succeeded :) This was done with my typical water mixable oil, paper collage and some silk flowers. Working like this was very fun, it's technical but very instant gratification as well. I can't stop thinking about floral motifs! Viney things, art nouveau, roses, tulip things...I've been so obsessed- I want to put floral motifs into everything. This is a 30 min continuous Blind Contour using a black Prismacolor marker. I usually hate blinds, but I found this one to be very aesthetic, with its complexity.
