When I was working on these prints, I was struggling hard to find a way to separate myself from dependency on a figural element. Coming from an illustration background...it's really difficult! Late in the semester, I think I started to hit the sweet spot, but I ran out of time. I'm gonna have to make a lot more collagraphs in the future. But anyway, the sheep represents an element of identity crisis, follow or forge? What is my responsibility socially, spiritually? This was done in a very heavy time in my life, glad it's over! I don't know how successful these came out, but they represent a stepping stone, so it's important I don't ignore them. Keep in mind that it's impossible to capture the subtle color mixing, and the amazing embossing in a digital photo.
All are hand-built collagraphs using BFK Rives layered in a collage fashion, augmented with molded plaster or other pliable elements like wood glue. The matrix is sealed with polycrylic, and able to be inked and rolled as with any printing plate. These are also printed on BFK with CMYK and RYBK lithographic ink.
ps....stare at the sheep
